The orchestra would like to announce the following results for the 5th annual 2020 Young Artist Competition. Judges awarded a Grand Prize, Second Place, and Third Place awards. Scoring was exceptionally competitive, and each winner and many other competitors demonstrated outstanding preparation and the musical maturity needed to perform as a soloist. Thank you to all performers who participated. We enjoyed each of your performances and applauded your hard work and diligent preparation.
Although the orchestra’s goal with this competition is to showcase these outstanding young soloists in concert, the state of live performance remains uncertain for the near future. The orchestra will continue to monitor public health and safety guidelines, and we eagerly await our return to the stage when we can do so safely. The HRP will be in touch with winners about possible future performing opportunities but cannot commit to any programming decisions at this time.

2021 Competition
Our 2021 competition took place on November 14, 2021, at The American Theatre in Hampton.
About the Competition
To foster musical talent in our community and give young musicians the valuable opportunity to perform as a soloist with an orchestra, the Hampton Roads Philharmonic is opening a portion of its season to feature a young soloist. Decided by an adjudicated competition, the winner will perform with the Hampton Roads Philharmonic as a featured soloist in March’s annual Young Artist Competition Showcase performance. This competition is open to instrumentalists up to age 21.
